Welcome to St John’s Ryde, where all are welcome.

St John’s is a Church of England parish on the Eastern side of Ryde, Isle of Wight. It is a church that bases itself in God, as our Vision Statement reminds us, and seeks to build God’s Kingdom in our world. If you want to find out more about God and Jesus, visit our diocesan website www.portsmouth.anglican.org

All are welcome at our services. Our main service of the week is 10.30 on Sunday morning where we share the Holy  Eucharist together except on the 2nd Sunday when our have  All-Age Worship. At this service we find the Body of Christ in our midst, both in the form of Holy Communion and in the people who gather. We also seek to discern what God is saying to us through His Word, the Bible as it is read to us week by week. Preaching is a vital part of our ministry here.

A very important aspect of our life and worship is our Children’s Work (through our Junior Church). Children are not just the church of the future, but of the present. We are blessed with a dedicated team of children’s leaders, all working to strict diocesan guidelines to ensure safety.

Our Vision Statement emphasises our responsibilities to our neighbours, near and far. Our parish is mixed but contains a significant proportion of deprived people and families. We seek to reach out to them in two significant ways. First, we helped to set up the Park Centre at our former Church Hall. This puts on courses in basic Maths and English, hosts free legal advice sessions and contains a computer suite for access and training. Go to http://www.theparkcentre.org.uk/. Secondly, we are closely involved in the life of our two Church Schools, Oakfield CE Primary and Bishop Lovett Middle School.  Pupils visit our church regularly and parishioners are involved in the Governing Body . We also support a church project in Ghana, where the Vicar and a lay member has visited 3 times.

We are keen to help people to learn about and develop their Christian faith and understanding and regularly put on sessions and courses to which all are invited. See the ‘What’s On’ page for this.

We are, of course, open to all in our area who seek baptism for themselves and their children, as well as Christian marriage. The Vicar is open to the possibility of the marriage of divorced people. Please see the ‘Services’ page for this.

Finally we have a beautiful church which is usually open for prayer and reflection. Do please use it.

Enjoy your visit!
